Obituary of Frank Seibert

October 29, 1936 – Varoslod, Hungary

November 1, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Frank Seibert beloved partner of Mary-Lou Matthias of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021 at the age of 85 years.

Frank was born in Varoslod, Hungary and immigrated to Canada with his parents at the age of eleven. He spent his youth on the family farm near Sangudo where he learned the value of hard work. He attended the Vermillion School of Agriculture, where he met and later married Mae, who was his loving wife for 36 years. He began his working life in an agricultural artificial breeding unit, and then moved on to buying grain for Alberta Wheat Pool. This was the start of a 30 year career with the Alberta Wheat Pool which took him and his family to many different towns in Alberta until his retirement from Head Office in Calgary.

Frank valued many things, especially family, treating others with respect and kindness, hard work and leading an active life. He had numerous interests throughout his life, he enjoyed many camping trips, hunting with friends and family, canoeing, hiking, biking, gardening, collecting golf balls from various rivers, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Many hours were spent collecting rocks and building inukshuks or creating impressive rock walls in his yard. He also had a passion for sausage making and had a regular supply of his delicious wares ready to share with eager friends and family.

Frank and Mary-Lou created many memories together by travelling to a variety of places such as Australia, Germany, Hawaii, Iceland, Africa, Italy, Toronto, Arizona, Colorado and British Columbia. Exploring and learning about other places, meeting new people and hearing their stories, visiting friends and family were all ways he loved to spend his time.

“Foolish are you who in the midst of life do not sense the coming of death; for all that you do and hold great is worth nothing in that moment” Bardo Thodol, Tibetan Book of the Dead.
