Obituary of Lu Horwood

Lauretta “Lu” Horwood, beloved wife of Bryden Horwood of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, at the age of 83 years.

Lu was born in Montreal on December 5, 1937, to Mary Cathleen Griffin of Dublin, Ireland, and Edgar Eve of London, England. Lu attended Verdun High School and graduated from the Montreal Mother House College. In 1964 she married her lifelong love, Bryden, and they moved to Holland, later returning to Canada, and settling in Calgary.

Lu was a much beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She lived an active life; skiing, playing golf and tennis, and other activities at the Glencoe Club. She volunteered for numerous charities and non-profits, tutored literacy, and was a longstanding member of PEGG Wives.

Lu’s favourite room in the house was the kitchen. She was an inspired and adventurous cook, and a great hostess.

Besides her loving husband of 57 years, Bryden, Lu is survived by her son Grant, and brother Edgar. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy and Eileen, and her brother Denis.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. Robert Pynn of Christ Church Anglican. Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) Under 12 years of age.
