Condolences
I was very sorry to hear of Lyman's passing. While I have not seen Lyman in probably twenty-five years, I remember how kind, helpful and just so much fun he was when I worked with him at Field Aviation here in Calgary. I was right out of aviation school, and Lyman took great care of me on the hangar floor. He taught me so much.
I remember I got my first cheque, and in those days they handed it to you. I was working with Lyman at the time, and we both opened our pay envelopes. He looked at his, then he looked at mine. Then he laughed and said, "I paid more in income tax than you made." We both stood there, laughing together.
I dropped by his house once with a six pack of beer to pay for a tool that he had given me. While in the basement I noticed his Airforce uniform. I pointed at it and said, "Wow!". He looked at me and said, "Still weigh the same as when I got out." I asked him to put the jacket on for me. He said sure. He struggled for about 30 seconds to put it on, the looked at me and said, "The weight must have shifted around a bit." We laughed like hell.
One more memory. They sent me to work with Lyman on a Buffalo. He was up on the top of the aircraft. I climbed up to see him, and he was whistling away, having a good time. I said, "You sure sound happy there, buddy." He looked at me and said, "Nope, just don't know no better." Then he smiled.
Rest in peace, my friend.
