Obituary of Janice Lynn James

It is with great sadness that we announce Janice James (nee Kerr) of Calgary, AB, a beloved mother, adored grandmother and cherished friend, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021 at the age of 73 years.

Janice - or Jan, as she was known to family and friends - was born to the late John (Jack) and Madeline Kerr, in Medicine Hat, AB. A proud “air force brat”, Jan attended Canadian Air Force primary and secondary schools in Canada and Europe until her family eventually settled in Ontario. She graduated from the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Kingston, ON, in 1970.  Jan married in 1974, and several years later relocated to Calgary.  Jan was a dedicated nurse, spending 36 years with Alberta Health Services actively supporting the dialysis program in various bedside, managerial and educational positions. She was a legendary cook, an avid reader, kept active with her walking group and loved nothing more than to soak in a little sunshine on a camping or sailing trip. Her morning walks will forever be missed by Marley.

Jan is survived by her siblings, Doug and Rhonda Kerr and Deborah Kerr; her three children, Arran and Emily James, Tyler James and Marissa Montgomery, and Kerstin and Bill MacDonald; five grandchildren, Daniel, Isaac, Oscar, Henry and Lila; and baby MacDonald due February 2022.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.  Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) Under 12 years of age. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Ms. James’ service streamed live here (see below) on the day of the service.
