Obituary of Morton (Tony) Draper Cutts

November 23, 1932 – Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

December 3, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Morton Draper (Tony) Cutts, beloved husband of Dorthea, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Tony was born in Prince Albert, SK and spent his early life in Saskatchewan before moving to Calgary for his schooling. After high school, he was proud to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force.  He then decided to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry. During his 34 years with Mobil Oil, he formed many lifelong friendships.

Tony loved to travel. His natural curiosity led to travels in Western Canada in his trailer and holidays on the west coast of British Columbia. He and Dorthea enjoyed countless trips over the years throughout Western Europe. Paris was his favorite and he was always happy to pass along his Paris Tips to fellow travelers.

Tony was devoted to his grandchildren, Ashley and Jeffrey. He looked forward to the many summers with them in Summerland, B.C., Calgary and the Rocky Mountains. A great joy was the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Austin, Wyatt and Connor Akland.

Tony was a man of many talents. In the early 70s, he pursued an interest in ceramic arts and created beautiful pots and dinnerware which he passed on to friends and family. Tony loved cooking and his baked bread and jam was enjoyed by many friends.  His signature dish, kulebiaka, was always a source of applause at dinner parties.

Besides Dorthea, his loving wife of 51 years, Tony is survived by his sons, Lloyd Cutts (Mary) and Robert Cutts; grandchildren, Ashley Cutts (Taylor) and Jeffrey Cutts; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Wyatt and Connor Akland; nephews, Dan Knudsen and Barry Knudsen, niece Jane Snow and her children, Ava and Addie Snow; along with so many friends who remember his keen sense of humour, his kindness, generosity and enthusiasm for life.

At Tony’s request there will be no funeral. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Salvation Army, 1731 29th Street SW Calgary, AB, T3C 1M6, on line at www.salvationarmy.ca,  or by phone 403-410-1112.

Sincere thanks to all the staff at Chinook Care Centre for the care they gave Tony for the past six months.

In loving memory of Tony Cutts, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
