Obituary of Helen Catharine Hume

HUME, Helen Catharine

February 9, 1936 – Edmonton, Alberta

December 2, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Helen Catharine Hume, our beloved wife, grandmother and friend, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the age of 85 years.

Helen was born in and raised in Edmonton and was a faithful Edmontonian; proudly supporting their hockey and football teams until the end.

After graduating from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Education, she moved to Calgary and accepted a position with the Calgary Board of Education to teach there. Helen was passionate about teaching and education; she made many fond memories over her 30 plus years as a teacher.

Helen married Don on February 4, 1978, and would go on to spend the rest of her life with them.  Together they developed a cottage a Sylvan Lake, and travelled with an RV. This allowed Helen and Don to enjoy companionship with their children and grandchildren throughout the summer months.

Later in life, Don also became Helen’s primary caregiver. As her dementia progressed, she required more support and care in her day-to-day life.

In her later life, Helen and Don participated in activities at the Anglican Church of Christ Church, Elbow Park.

Helen loved family and children. Her legacy will continue through her husband, her only child, Jocelyn Anne Fraser; four grandchildren and now great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Anglican Church of Christ Church, Elbow Park, announcements will be at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Helen Hume, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
