Robert Wood

Obituary of Robert Edward Wood

November 4, 1942 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

December 6, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Robert Edward Wood was known by many names, Ed, Ted, but was most proud when called grandpa or dad. He passed away peacefully on Monday, December 6, 2021 at the age of 79.

Born to Bill and Margaret Wood (nee Kyle) in Winnipeg, on November 4, 1942, Ed grew up all over Canada but his favourite childhood memories were at his grandma’s farm and in the big spaces of the Yukon. A self-starter with excellent work ethic, Ed put himself through Carlton University to become a Geologist. He was superb craftsman and even built his own cabin on Gull Lake.

Ed will be fondly remembered for his huge generosity and clever wit. He had a gentle and kind manor but was acutely astute. He adored his family and would proudly discuss their accomplishments to anyone that would listen. Ed had a huge heart and would give anyone his last dollar if needed. He made the best breakfasts, McWood’s on Christmas Day and blueberry muffins year-round.

He lived in many counties and his wanderlust allowed his family to experience things such as the Pyramids, Mount Vesuvius and Uluru.

This Aviation enthusiast flew on the Concorde and became a pilot himself. Now he has made his final trip, the best one yet, into Heaven with his dearly departed wife, brother and other friends and family.

Ed will live on in hearts of his daughter Erin Wood and his beloved grandchildren, Euan and Ethan Macnish of Cheltenham, UK. He will be lovingly remembered by both the Wood and Davis extended families as well as many local and international friends alike.

A Private Graveside Service will be held. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Robert Wood, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
