Obituary of Kenneth (Joe) Joseph MORRISON

March 13, 1962 - Calgary, Alberta

December 8, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Joe Morrison, beloved husband of Merric Morrison of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday December 8, 2021, at the young age of 59 years.

Joe was born in Calgary, AB, on March 13, 1962. He was raised in Elbow Park and had many childhood friends from this area of town; memories of growing up sledding down the many hills and playing in the halls of the Glencoe were just a few. Joe graduated from SAIT with a degree in business in 1982.

Joe married Merric in 2007 at Sooke Harbour House in BC.  Joe and Merric enjoyed living in Belize, Costa Rica, U.S., BC, and finally settling in Calgary where they raised their two young children. Joe enjoyed life to its’ fullest and was always up for a party with friends and family. He loved being an entrepreneur. He saw opportunity and worked tirelessly to develop and market a solution. Over twenty years ago, he and his team revolutionized the commercial print industry by developing a bank of computer servers that could securely store massive digital files and download by printing companies around the world, similar to the iCloud format today. Joe’s next foray was into power generation for isolated communities.  He had acquired a patented technology that could burn any type of garbage and produce electricity with no emissions at a competitive price. This was of tremendous interest to China and Saudi Arabia.  Joe was born a salesman and a people person at an early age.  On a trip to Mexico City at the age of ten, after six hours in the hotel, he knew every bellman, receptionist, and cleaners in the hotel by name and they knew him. This outgoing personality helped him throughout his life.

Beside his loving wife Merric, Joe is survived by his four daughters, Danielle, Nicole, Malaya, and Fiona; mother Dorothy Morrison; sisters, Ann Palmer (George), Nancy Colbourn (Doug), and Wendy Morrison (Ron); and brother Scott Morrison (Kandice). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Ann’s children, Jeff Moore (Kristie), and Krista Moore, Scott’s children, Lindsay White-O’Neal (Regan), Keltie Morrison, (Andrew), and Nancy’s children, Stephen Colbourn, Tom Colbourn, and Greg Colbourn.

The day after Joe passed, I was looking into a store window and I saw this sign, “I hope there are days when you fall in love with being alive.”  We love you Joe and we will miss you! - Merric Morrison.

A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held sometime in the Spring. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here. I would like to extend a very special thank you and gratitude to Kandice, Scott and Wendy Morrison for getting our family back on our feet during a very difficult transition. I would like to also give a special thanks to James McEachern, Sarah Morrison, Rodger and Lorea Grant, and Deborah Hamilton for taking Joe to and from the hospital in the last year, as well as to many family and friends in Calgary, B.C. and Houston who helped our family rise above it all and brought us peace and stability within. My sincerest Thank you, Merric Morrison.
