Condolences
I was very sad to hear of Chris's passing. He was such a vibrant and unique person, and I have fond memories of his friendliness, his kindness, and his humour over many years as a friend and colleague at U. of C. I will remember him with admiration and affection, and send my heartfelt condolences to Carol and family.

One of my best pals, a great colleague, fun to hang around with, advanced the department in a major way. We will all miss him.
I worked with Chris for a brief time at the University of Calgary’s Latin American Research Centre. He was incredibly passionate about his work, kind and humorous. My sincere condolences.
Dr Christon I Archer (Chris) was more than the life of the party he was the party ! Chris was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and educator… Anthea and I went to one of his lectures at the university of Vancouver Island, he was amazing bringing history to life. Sorry I was born on your birthday in August 8 years later. Love you Chris, Rest In Peace. ♥️ Darrel
Time cannot steal the treasures that we carry in our hearts, nor dim the shining thoughts our cherished past imparts! There may be little we can say, and not much we can do right now, but both of us would like to show our thoughts and love are there with all of you!
I always looked up to my "big" brother Chris with so much pride, and am so proud of the life journeys and the wonderful, caring, loving and brilliant man he came to be!!! Taken way too soon, but for sure etched in MY heart forever. Rest in Peace Chris!
Love Lynne (Dave)
I, too, was a student of Chris’s many years ago. He was an excellent teacher, mentor and friend to us. Always with great enthusiasm. He fostered a love for history, that I continue today. Rest In Peace.

Chris was an excellent professor who cared deeply for his students. He was not only my favorite professor but also my friend. His enthusiasm was contagious as was his love for Mexican history. Without him I would have never become a historian. He will be missed.
Luz Maria Hernandez Saenz, professor emerita
I remember Dr. Archer well and was lucky to get a number of classes with him, was invited with a class to his house, and got to have a beer with him at a pub. Easily my favorite, most respected, and amazing Professor who cared deeply for his students. A great loss.
I was a student of Chris' in the late 1960's. I was not his best student, but somehow his course on Latin American history led to a lifelong friendship. He was my "go to" contact person at the University of Calgary. As part of the wave of fresh young academics who came to Calgary during that era, he embodied the best of the UofC. With his combined frankness and humour he also epitomized how academia should communicate with the outside world.
