Obituary of Sydney Tuckey

October 29, 1934 – Gourock, Renfrewshire

December 25, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Sydney Tuckey on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Sydney was born in Gourock, SCT, on October 29, 1934, moved to Canada in 1948 and became a Master Electrician with the City of Calgary where he worked until his retirement.  Sid spoke very highly of his crew at the City and they held a special place in his heart long past retirement. Not one to let grass grow under his feet, Sid continued working as an electrician well into his 70’s taking on contract positions both in Calgary and Internationally. Sid could always be found volunteering for an event whether it was for Spruce Meadows, the 88 Calgary Winter Olympics or as a regular blood donor for the Red Cross, there was never a request for help or volunteering he would deny.  He had a passion for sports and had a love for slow-pitch where he would participate in many tournaments with his family and friends throughout the years.  Sid enjoyed camping, daily walks throughout Fish Creek Park with his dogs, hiking and spending time with family and friends.

Sid will be remembered as an honest and caring man with a willingness to help anyone in need and for his love of his dogs.  Sid volunteered many hours with the Southland Natural Park Society alongside his beloved wife Nora (deceased) and together they received multiple municipal awards for their efforts at Southland Natural Park, including the Mayors Environmental Achievement Award and numerous volunteer recognition awards over the years.

Sid cherished his family and the time they spent together, whether it was camping, hiking or Sunday dinners and he always had a sparkle in his eye when he spoke of his children and grandchildren.  He will be missed by us all.  The last five years he spent battling dementia and throughout the struggle he maintained his dignity and integrity that he was so well respected for.

Dad will be remembered for his quick wit, silly songs and dances, and how he loved to make his grandkids laugh. Sydney will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sid leaves to mourn his daughters, Kim (Richard), Corinna, Shelley (Ron), and son Garry; his six grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Jessica, Breanne, Kole, Sydney.  He is also survived by his sister Dorothy (Herb) and was predeceased by his wife Nora; his parents, his three brothers Albert (Len), Charlie, Peter, and his sister Eileen.

A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Sydney’s name may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, #800, 7015 MacLeod Trail SW., Calgary, AB T2H 2K6 telephone 403-290-0110 www.alzheimercalgary.ca

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Father Lacombe Care Centre who cared for dad with the respect he so deserved.  Words cannot convey how truly appreciative we are for the care they provided.
