So sorry for your loss. My husband and I worked with Mike at Riley's for many years. Favourite memory? He gave the best hugs during stressful days. He always looked on the bright side. Rest in peace Big Mike.

Mike McGuire was a champion of the underdogs, a safer place for those who weren’t unsure of where they belonged to feel welcomed, cared for, and heard. When I was younger I used to feel resentful of that, as I had to share my dad with so many other folks who he had taken under his wing. But, as I grew older, it was something I deeply admired about him - his endless capacity to love and care for ALL. Mike, my dad, my soulmate, was my biggest fan and my best friend. We shared a love of a music, community, grocery shopping, food, Diet Coke, ridiculously dark humour and philosophical conversations about life. I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to say goodbye to him and I don’t have to. I am a part of him; his values and beliefs intertwined into my being. I will carry him with ease forever.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to Bonnie, Mary and Chris as well as the whole family. Mike was such a funny and kind person. He loved talking music and would always shuffle a dance in his seat while playing poker. I will always be reminded of Mike in certain ways and will always cherish the moments I had with him.

I am very sad and beyond shocked to hear this news. Mike was a very kind and caring person. I worked with Mike for many years at the Saddledome. He would always ask me how I was and how my dad was. Mike was an amazing man always knew how to cheer you up. He gave the best hugs and had the warmest smile he. Always had an open ear and made sure everyone he knew was doing good. He will be greatly missed by many but shall forever remain in our hearts. From a former employee at CSEC.

It’s hard to imagine a world without Mike. He touched so many lives and will be deeply missed by many. I’ll always remember how he made me feel special and the wonderful ways he made me laugh. I worked with Mike at Flames & Riley's, he was a great guy and was always nice &friendly to everyone. Every time I saw him, we would catch on what going in each other lives,friends and work. I will miss him, Rest in peace Mike.

As volunteers for CSEC (marching band member and parent), my son and I worked many shifts at the Saddledome. As we checked-in, prior to our shifts, Mike's warm presence always made us feel welcomed. We extend our condolences to his family.

I first met Mike when my partner (Matt McGuire) and I travelled to Calgary in 2016. Recently, Matt told me that on that trip Uncle Mike said "Marry that girl Matt"! It wasn't long after that he proposed and in 2018, he joined us as we exchanged our vows. I look at the pictures of Uncle Mike from our wedding day and I can see that he is saying something like "Good job taking my advice Matt"! Thank you Uncle Mike for welcoming into your family since day one. I love you and your entire family very much and will miss you dearly.

Mike was a dear friend & father figure to me; it makes me smile to think about when we first met when I started with Riley's over 20 years ago. I was actually intimidated by his intense stare and "gruff-ness". Of course I quickly found out it was all an act, and we quickly bonded with his humor and compassion. He introduced me to his "poker crew" and gave me great advice over the years. I will miss you Mike, you had a great love for life.

I remember the time when I drove into the McGuire driveway at the same time as a repairman who was driving a big white van. Mike thought I had succumbed to driving a utility van to hold all my crafting supplies for a retreat that Bonnie and I were attending. RIP Mike.

I have never met a more loving and compassionate man. He was the highlight of my day, walking into work being greeted by his warming smile. He watched me grow up. And he was always cheering me on with whatever life was throwing me. He will be dearly missed.

Mike was a great friend. I worked with him at CSEC. He would come into the Staff Cafe often and was always so polite and very often had a funny joke to share with us. He was always willing to listen to others troubles and offer friendly advice. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. RIP Mike <3

My daughter and I had the privilege of working with Mike at the Calgary Saddledome. You were always greeted with a smile, and were afforded some of Mike’s time for a wee chat about your day.

When my daughter had a bad day, Mike took it upon himself to buy her a wee trinket which said: “when it rains, play in the puddles!”

Truly a great man, RIP - you will be missed my friend!
