Jerry Bowes of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the age of 83 years.

 

Jerry was born in Hardisty, AB, on August 19, 1938. He attended Macklin High School in Saskatchewan, and later worked for Sceptre Resources out of Calgary, AB. He joined the Queens Own Rifles of Canada in 1955, and was stationed in Currie Barricks, Calgary, AB. From 1957 to 1963, Jerry was stationed in Deilinghofen, Germany (Fort McLeod) on NATO Duty. While there, he met his future wife, Heid. They then moved back to Calgary before returning to Germany in 1967, where he served as a member of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.

 

Jerry enjoyed playing many sports such as hockey and curling and had a particular passion for golf. He and his wife were long time members at the Redwood Golf and Country Club in Bragg Creek, AB. Jerry’s most memorable vacations were trips back to Germany to see family, as well as trips out to Saskatchewan to visit his brother, Greg, and family. During his later years he met his partner Lynda, and they enjoyed many years of companionship. Jerry will be most remembered for his kindness and generosity.

Jerry is survived by his partner Lynda Peterson; his brother Greg Bowes (Darlene); two nephews, Scott Bowes (Dana), and Marty Bowes (Nora Roberts), Scott’s children, Dexter and Jett; Marty’s children, Jonah and Kacie Bowes; and their mother Julie Bowes. He was predeceased by his wife Heid Bowes, and his parents Wilbert and Wilma Bowes.

The family would like to extend they’re thanks to the Rockyview General Hospital, friends at the Garrison Curling Club, the Royal Canadian Legion Millennium Branch 289, the Redwood Meadows Golf and Country Club, as well as all the extended family in Germany, and all of Jerry’s wonderful friends and military comrades from over the years.
