Condolences
My Grandmother was a lovely, happy, very spunky and lively woman. She always seemed to have a big smile on her face. She was incredibly outgoing and seemed to have many friends in her life. One of my earliest memories of her was oddly kind of fun/scary. I recall being with her in her car and I'm pretty sure we were near the Sears store off 16th in Calgary, when she hit a patch of ice and the car spun out. I remember sitting in the car as it turned the wrong way, seeing the Sears store come into view, which should have been on my right. At the time it felt like I was just on a carnival ride, but in hindsight glad she didn’t hit anything or anyone hit her! I was quite young so to me it just felt like a joy ride lol!
I loved the comment about her talking on the phone with friends for hours. I remember her always being on the phone. She would always be doing things with friends too when she wasn’t on the phone with them. She was so active for her age, going bowling all the time and just being an overall social butterfly. You could tell that she was a very good friend to many people.
She always made sure there was food to eat, even if you just finished a 4 course meal, she would still offer more food! She loved to feed everyone but would take forever to feed herself LOL! I recall many Christmas Eve dinners as a child where we would open presents together after dinner and Grandma was always the last to finish eating! As a child I was impatient but I thank her now for teaching me that it's ok to wait for fun things you wish to do! It's more important we do things together, not apart. One funny habit I mildly picked up from Grandma was how she would pick up every little fluff she saw on the floor. I recall her always bending over to pick up a tiny piece of fluff on the ground and to this day I do it sometimes too and think of her as I do it! I still own some of her old furniture and love that I still have her old living room coffee table. Though it's no longer adorned with that huge massive green candle (I think she only very tired burning once) and peppermints/werthers candy bowls on top! It's nice having some things of hers that I recall from my times with her. I do my best to keep the table clean and tidy as she did!
The last few years of her life I understand a part of her couldn’t remember who I was, but I will always remember her for who she was. Who she was may have left a long time ago, but we will always remember the amazing woman she was. Her memory remains in our hearts and souls and shall not be forgotten. She has returned to The Creator and is gifted once again with the memory of her life. Every identity who comes and goes from this world is never lost, nor forgotten. Each memory we create is forever recorded in our life books and she finally has full access to everything. I can feel her smiling once again. She finally can remember the life she created and is shining her light down on each person who touched her heart in her lifetime. She is with each of us, forever smiling, forever remembering, forever loving each one of us and the impact she had on our lives.
Cheers to you Grandma Rose! Thank you for being an amazing Mother to my Father, my two Uncles, a Mother In-Law and a loving Grandmother to Jessie and I. We love you, we miss you and our souls shall never forget you! Rest in peace, dear Grandmother!
With Love,
Sabrina McKendrick - Granddaughter
