Rosa Grossi

Obituary of Rosa Grossi

GROSSI, Rosa (nee L'Amarca)

March 2, 1930 - Marigliano, Italy

January 13, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Rosa was born in Lausdomini, Marigliano, Italy on March 2, 1930.  She immigrated to Canada in August 1954 and married the Love of her Life, Carmine Grossi on December 11, 1954, in Calgary.  Rosa and Carmine had two children, Silvana, and Giovanni, and were married for 23 years before Carmine fell ill and predeceased Rosa in 1977 at the age of 49.  They settled first in Bridgeland and then Renfrew, where Rosa lived for 50 plus years.

During her working years, Rosas sewing skills led to a career as a seamstress until she retired.  Rosa approached her challenges with the same gusto as her love of family, friends, good food, and fine wine.  She loved to entertain friends and family at her home which was truly a treat for all.  The meal usually started with a garden tour and ended with a trip to her BAR, espresso, more eating, and a game of Scopa.  Her greatest achievement and passion were driving her red and white 1976 Monte Carlo (with the bucket swivel seat)– it gave her wings.  Rosa was an unforgettable, strong-willed woman who always spoke her mind and had a Heart of Gold. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren deeply and was very proud of them as evidenced by the picture books she constantly carried with her.  She was third of nine children of Antonio and Antonietta L'Amarca and remained close to her eight siblings throughout her life.

Rosa is survived by her children and their spouses: Sylvia Neuert (John), and John Grossi (Dominique), her grandchildren: Stephanie Desmarais (Chris) and Mark Neuert (Tara), Carmine Grossi and Joel Grossi (Alicia), and great-grandchildren: Aria, Laura, and Harrison. She is survived by her siblings Maria DeBlasio, Maddalena Pacchiano, Michelangelo L’Amarca, Anna Horvath; her brothers-in-law, Alfredo DeBlasio, Pasquale Mautone, and Michele Grossi and sisters in law Caterina and Vincenzina Grossi, Louise L’Amarca, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rosa was pre-deceased by her husband Carmine Grossi; her siblings Felicetta Riccio, Frank L’Amarca, Teresa Mautone, Giuseppe L’Amarca; brothers-in-law, Luigi Riccio, Angelo and Donato Grossi and Frank Horvath; sisters-in-law, Rosetta L'Amarca, Luigina Miele, and Maria Grossi; niece Gabriella Langan; and her parents, Antonio, and Antonietta L'Amarca.
