My heartfelt condolences go out to Richard's family. Richard was a true friend always there for you if you had a problem at work or otherwise. I shared many memories with Richard and we were always able to get together over a beverage to share our day and a good joke. One of my favorites was "two guns" I am sure I am no the only one Richard told that one to. Richard my friend, rest in peace, you will be missed.

Richard and I worked together at CP Rail for many years. He was one of my best friends as we spent time together and loved cooking Chinese food. He was my sous chef. He kept me well hydrated. My condolences to all his family. I miss him every day.

Richard was a true friend always there to lend a hand or talk. He was my mentor and esteemed CP colleague. Of course, to celebrate/debrief our accomplishments over a beer was standard practice.
He will always be remembered.
My deepest condolences to Richards Family.

Jill, Matt and family,
Our thoughts are with you as you remember your father and your Bampi. We never had the chance to meet him but it sounds that he brought lightness and joy to those around him.

My deepest condolences to Richards Family, RIP my friend. Memories of you as a very knowable Signal Guy will always be admired. Also, those very humorous after hour occasions when it was appropriate to wind down.
My deepest condolences to Richards family. I meet Richard early in my carrier at CP when he was in the training department, and was fortunate enough to work with him on and off while I was at CP. He was a gentleman and scholar that always enjoyed a cold drink after a long day.
RIP, cheers Richard.

I had the pleasure of working with Richard after we both “retired” from CPR. He was instrumental in making that a very enjoyable experience. However the courage and dignity he displayed, facing his own challenges, in the last few years should be a template for all of us when faced with such issues.
My deepest sympathy to Sue and family of whom he was so very proud.
I will miss him.

I heard about Richard's passing today - Jan 20th from a former CPR S&C man. Richard and I born the same year, raised by men who worked in the CPR as signal men themselves. His Dad Art and mine Nils Hoas woking the signals dept in Sherbrooke, Qc back in the '60's and 70's. I also started worked for the CPR in signals, starting in 1971 where I got to know Richard. A few years later, I transferrred over to CPR running trades - but often would catch up with Richard in the Farnham area. Sometimes just a quick few words on the radio a few times in person, speak about our Dads and familiy - often a joke - one of which I clearly remember to this day. It was a great pleasure to know him and work with him over those years. Time passes too quickly.
Richard's quick wit and good nature always gave me a good laugh. His passing too soon. His legacy also remembered, by me, as the guy(s) who kept things - railway - runnig for the trains and locomotive engineers like me. The unsung heros in the background > like our Dads before us. I never took their work for granted or Richard's dedication to his craft. Both of us, as second gen railwaymen raising our own families provided for with CPR jobs.
My sincerest condolences to all the family.

I dedicate Luke Bryan song drink a Beer to my best friend Richard. Wishing nothing but the best to Sue and their family
Very sad news! I always enjoyed my times working with Richard at both CP and Hatch. Best memory was Richard and I trying to save the beer from spoiling in London ON during the massive power outage that hit Southern Ontario. Super guy, shared plenty of laughs over the years and will be missed by many.
Condolences to Richard's family. My time working and being friends with Richard were cherished. He was warm, Witty and Intelligent. He was a book of knowledge on the Railway. Always had a joke at the ready and had a way of Making you feel better about yourself. RIP you will be missed my friend.
Richard and I shared a few laughs and beers. I will always appreciate his help building my deck in Cochrane. He was very knowledgeable about railway signaling systems and especially switch machines. Even after retirement he was called upon for assistance. He was always ready with a joke. He could tell them better than most. He will be missed.
