Obituary of Richard Donald Hastings

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Richard Hastings after a long, frustrating, and courageous fight with cancer. 

Richard was born and raised in Sherbrooke, Quebec, eventually moving to Calgary with his family. He spent his career working for CP Rail and will be missed by his many, many friends there. Richard loved a good party and was quick to make friends and even quicker with a joke. 

Richard is survived by his wife Susan (nee Clogg), and his five children, Scott (Rebecca Lesser), Stephanie (Tom O’Neill), Jill Mayer (Matthew Mayer), Mark (Janelle Hastings), and Brian (Sophie Guindon). He will also be remembered as “Bampi” by his six grandchildren, Ruby, Lily, Emma, Gavin, Ella, and Reid. He is also survived by his brother Toby. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Arthur and Jessie (nee Williams).

The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date but encourage all who knew him to raise a toast to celebrate a life well lived and a battle well fought.  If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Rosedale Hospice (https://www.hospicecalgary.ca/donate/) where he spent his final days surrounded in love and comfort by his family and the incredible staff.
