Obituary of Aaron James MacDonald

August 29, 1977 - Grande Prairie, Alberta

January 24, 2022 - Airdrie, Alberta

Aaron “AJ” MacDonald of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 44 years.

Raised in Red Deer, Alberta, Aaron was a private man who found enjoyment watching and playing all sports. As a teenager, Aaron played for the WHL, eventually being drafted by the NHL’s Florida Panthers. He proceeded to play for the ECHL for 3 seasons. Aaron’s passion for sports only grew when his sons followed in his footsteps, playing seasonally.

Aaron started his professional career as a Contract Administrator with Suncor Energy where he spent fifteen years, and recently, was hired with Bantrel, a position he was eager to start.

Aaron had a passion for adventure/vacationing in all seasons. He was a lover of sun, sand, and water, whether it be a pool or ocean. His love for snow ran deep, spending his winters in the mountains snowboarding. His most memorable trip was to Ixtapa, Mexico in December 2019, with Lindsey and their 3 sons.

Aaron is survived by his sons, Mason Aames (12), Nixon Caine (10) and Ronin Pryce (10) all of Airdrie, AB; his ex-wife Lindsey; his mother Marilyn MacDonald of Red Deer, AB, and his sister and brother-in-law, Linette and Cory Miller, of Red Deer, AB.

Aaron was predeceased by his father, Jim MacDonald.
