Jeanne d'Arc Roy

Obituary of Jeanne d'Arc Florence Roy

ROY, Jeanne d’Arc Florence

May 13, 1930 – Dollard, Saskatchewan

January 29, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Sister Jeanne Roy, a Sister of Charity of St. Louis for 73 years, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Providence Care Centre in Calgary, at the age of 91 years.

Sister Jeanne was born in Dollard, SK.  She joined the community in 1946, in Bienville, QC, and made her first profession of vows on February 11, 1949, in Moose Jaw, SK.   Sister Jeanne had a passion for teaching and was a gifted teacher. She taught in Medicine Hat, AB, Melville, SK, New Westminster, BC, and in Wilcox, SK, where she taught 24 of her 37 years in this ministry. Upon retirement, she volunteered at Wascana Handicap School in Regina, where she taught special needs children and did Pastoral Care at Regina Hospital. She later moved to Calgary, AB, in 2009 because of late onset adult muscular dystrophy.

As her disease progressed, it did not stop Jeanne from involving herself in many activities. She found her creative energies doing pottery, calligraphy, card making and painting; especially pen-and-ink. At Providence Care Centre, she joined the art group and sold a number of her paintings at the yearly art sale. The Sisters could be assured of a hand-made card for their birthday!

Sister Jeanne will be lovingly remembered by her community members, brother Armand (Henriette) Roy, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Armand, and Regina (Cassavant); brothers, Rosaire and Dominique; and sister, Laurina.

A Private Funeral Mass will be held in the chapel of the FCJ Christian Life Centre. Following current restrictions, the service and reception will be for invited guests, and a proof of vaccination code will be required. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
