Condolences
my condolences to the family. I worked with Derek at Shell Canada and had a great deal of admiration for his work ethic, dedication and affable personality. He was a lovely person who spoke fondly of his family and his many interests. He was also an inspiration to me with his focus on health (took amazingly long regular walks!) and interest in learning new things.
Best to the family

My condolences to all the family,
I have many great memories.
I met Derek along time ago in a dance studio in Kitchener, Ontario. We both were very dedicated on dancing so we decided to work on metals starting with the bronze. We both took private lessons. It did not take us long to accomplish it. We thought that was easy , let’s work on the silver metal now. That was harder so we had to practise more. Every Sunday afternoon was extra practise . Derek brought a thermos with coffee and I brought some homemade baking to keep our strength up. The hard work paid off, we passed our silver test and got our metal. We figured to keep going now and get our gold. Well we got our Gold Metal also.
We always stayed in touch after Derek moved to Calgary. He usually came to visit his sister in Kitchener in September . His birthday is on the 21st and mine September 22nd so we always celebrated together in a nice restaurant when he was here.
I will miss him , but will see him again in heaven. I’m sure there will be dancing also. R.I.P. Derek
Your dance partner Ingrid
Our condolences to the family at this sad time.
My husband and I met Derek in the mid 70s' when Diane and Audrey were little girls. Derek was the type of person and neighbour that you liked and trusted instantly. He was a quiet gentle well groomed man who loved his girls very much. They moved away and we lost touch . We have been fortunate enough to be reacquainted with Diane just recently. Now a lovely grown woman. Her and Derek had remained close through all the years that we lost contact . He continued to be the same quiet caring gentle man to the end.
Cheers Derek.
