Obituary of Terrance Jerome Collin

June 25, 1936 - Lethbridge, Alberta
February 4, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Terrance Collin beloved husband of the late Betty Collin (nee Vornbrock) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the age of 85 years.

Terry was born in Lethbridge, AB on June 25, 1936. Until he left for University, he lived on the family farm near Warner, AB. After graduating High School, he attended the University of Alberta, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics. Later in life, he continued his studies at the University of Calgary, where he achieved a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master’s Degree.

Terry married Betty Vornbrock on December 29, 1958. They lived in Austin, TX and Edmonton, AB before settling in Calgary, AB. Terry was still living in the family house in Varsity that had been his home for the past 54 years.

Terry retired from S.A.I.T. as the Dean of the Math/Physics/Computing department in 1996, after having served at SAIT for the majority of his working years. He was honoured as one of SAIT’s Top 100 Employees to celebrate SAIT’s centennial.

As a long-time parishioner of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Terry was active in various ministries and knew many families within the church. Terry was a life-long avid motorcyclist and he and Betty were Chapter Directors of the Gold Wing Road Rider’s Association in Calgary. He and Betty travelled widely on their motorcycle and made many friends through this hobby. Terry, Betty and the family camped often in the mountains and he also loved to travel to Hawaii each winter, and began this tradition with Betty in 1992.

Terry was known by most for his ability to fix almost anything. He savoured the challenge of figuring things out and shared his knowledge and skill with everyone. A love of music was prominent in his life. Terry enjoyed many years playing in the Good Timer’s band and still practiced on his electronic accordion daily.

Terry will be remembered for his willingness to joyfully help anyone in need, whether through providing a helping hand or giving of his time.

Terrance is predeceased by his wife Betty and by his eldest son David. He is survived by his son Duane (Linda; Talitha, Lewis, Justine (Austin) and Bennett), daughter Susan (Trevor), daughter Julie (Greg; Kurtis) and daughter-in-law Sherley.
