Obituary of Wesley Joseph Bowler

BOWLER, Wesley Joseph

September 7, 1947 - Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan

February 12, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Wesley (Wes) Joseph Bowler, 74, of Calgary, AB passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 12, 2022, following a battle with prostate cancer.

Wes grew up a farm boy in Saskatchewan. He spoke often of the prairie skies rife with birds, the simple pleasures of baseball and reading, the companionship of his border collie, the excitement of harvest time and the monotonous hours of work. Graduating from the Saskatchewan Technical Institute (STI) in 1969, Wes worked in the Oil and Gas industry for the duration of his career becoming the first Registered Engineering Technologist in Alberta and later forming his company WesTech Controls Ltd, which he ran until his retirement in 2011.

While successful in his career, his true passions were faith and family. Wes was exceedingly proud of his three children, Jeremy, Megan and Ben and his beloved wife Kathie. Later, seven grandchildren were a spring of endless joy as he relished attending sports, graduations, dance recitals and baptisms. His faith in God was paramount and formed the foundation of his parenting, marriage, and friendships. Wes’s friends mattered greatly to him. Generosity with his time and his heart was rewarded ten-fold through the genuine loyalty, support and love he received in return.

A devout man of faith, Wes valued a relationship with his heavenly father and diligently based his life around serving God and others. Each day began with devotions and study of the bible. At the church, he served as an elder, an usher, mentored young married groups, delivered Christmas hampers, greeted newcomers at the door, led Boy’s Brigade, counted offerings, and assisted with counseling for those who needed it. He viewed his service to others not only as a duty, but also a joy believing that he gained more than he gave.

A persistent tinkerer, Wes had a gadget for everything and was fascinated by all things electronic. Whether wiring control systems for Kathie’s pottery kiln, helping friends and children with electrical projects, researching the specs for his cherished e-bike, or automating anything from weather thermometers to timers on his smoker; Wes loved a project.

It is with sadness that those who loved him navigate the void of his absence. Still, an undercurrent of joy and celebration remains as he joins his heavenly father whom he loved more than all else.

A memorial service will be held at Southview Alliance Church, (20200 Walden Blvd. SE) on Saturday, February 19th, 2022, starting at 1:00 pm. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
