Obituary of Doris Eileen Harris (nee Bishop)

May 25, 1931 - Chicago, Illinois, USA

February 13, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris Harris, our beloved Mom, Mom-in-law, Nana and GG. She passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the age of 90 years. She will be truly missed by all her family and friends.

Doris was born in Chicago, IL, USA on May 25, 1931. She lived an adventurous childhood in England and the Canadian Maritimes.  Doris was the wife of an artillery officer and was also a career woman who thrived in any social circle. She particularly enjoyed being a Communications Coordinator at Baker Lovick Advertising in Calgary and gained many friends there.  She found comfort in her faith and enjoyed the fellowship at The First Baptist Church in Calgary. Doris volunteered at The Open Door and Calgary Theater Singers and was active in various woman’s organizations; a member of the EWI (Executive Women’s International), Plus 55, and the ‘Wild Rose’ Red Hatters Chapter.

With boundless energy, she was always positive and grateful for her relationships. She was an encouraging mother and grandmother. She loved singing, music and dancing and attended many theater and arts events. Doris made friends wherever she went and loved being surrounded by the younger generations, as she would say, they made her feel young. She especially loved watching her grandchildren’s event and activities and watching them grow up.  She will be most remembered for her charismatic and outgoing personality.  She had an eye for design and fashion and wore stylish hats and accessories through out her life.

Doris is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott (Denise) of Vancouver, BC, and Clyde (Elise) of Deer Park, Illinois. She had four grandsons, Matthew (Stephanie) of Toronto, with two great-grandsons, Ethan and Colin; Taylor and Riley of Vancouver, BC and Connor of Deer Park, Illinois. Doris is also survived by her Aunt Pauline of New Brunswick. She was predeceased by her parents, Reg and Eileen Bishop and by her husband Alan.
