Condolences
I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Ruck's passing marks the end of an era, doesn't it? She was a remarkable individual and someone who inspired me and served as a role model. Although I first met Edith Ruck over fifty years ago, the things which I learned from her remain with me to this day. I shall always admire her.
I hope that the following memories offer you some comfort:
- Her wonderfully twinkly smile;
- The painting of flowers which she created to hang in the foyer of the family
home;
- The skill, problem-solving ability, and imagination which allowed Mrs. Ruck
to take an old buffet, chop the legs off, refinish it and place it in the entrance
of the Calandar Rd. house where the effect was deserving of a photo in
House and Garden;
- The amazing gatherings she would host and the special dishes which would
be part of those gatherings (especially the Vol Au Vent...grin);
- The advice that, if too hot while Spring skiing, one need only run your wrists
under cold water;
- And the evening when, as a teenager, my parents out of town, I found myself
with a bathtub faucet which would not turn off. "Who ya gonna Call?" Yup! I
called Edith Ruck. She arrived with a mittful of tools and had solved my
dilemma in mere minutes.
Blessings to you Tannis, Barb, Megan, and family. You know where I am if you need me.
Claire Clark
