Obituary of Neil Alan Bell

July 21, 1944 – Leduc, Alberta

February 22, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Alan Bell of Calgary, AB passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the age of 77. Born to William and Francis Bell in July of 1944, the oldest of four children.

After a brief few year in Duchess and Brooks, the family settled in Leduc, AB where his father worked at city hall. Leaving Leduc in 1963, he attended Mount Royal College before attending Simon Fraser University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1968. After university he worked at a couple of small-town radio stations before joining CFCN where he would retire after spending more than 40 years in broadcast journalism. It was while working at CFCN that he met his future wife, Karyn. Married in 1982, they would spend 40 years happily married prior to her passing in 2021. Alan had one son, Arran who he shared his love of hockey and cars with. Alan was an avid reader, when he wasn’t watching Hockey Night in Canada or talking about cars, he could be found in his comfy chair, engrossed in a novel or political tell-all.

Alan is survived by his son, Arran and daughter-in-law, three grandsons, two sisters, a brother, and a host of other relatives and lifelong friends. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
