February 26, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta,

Donald Day, beloved husband of Phyllis Day (nee Stobart), passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the age of 93 years. Don and Phyl were married for 69 1/2 years.

He is survived by wife Phyllis, daughters Maureen Haight (Dan) and Cathy Rice (Mike Thorpe); granddaughters Katie (Taylor), Jennifer (Charles), Shannon (Rami), Sara; grandsons, Trevor (Ali) and Matthew (Jade). He is also survived by three great grandsons, Zayd, Jackson and Archer. He leaves a brother Scott, several nieces and nephews and is predeceased by his parents and brother Bob.

Growing up in The Pas, Manitoba, Don loved to play hockey. As an adult he was a championship curler and loved to golf, do crossword puzzles, study maps and travel to warm locales in the winter with Phyllis.  Whichever pie he happened to be eating “was his favourite pie”.  He loved butter, bacon and shrimp and never found a vegetable he liked.

Don obtained his Geological Engineering Degree at the University of Saskatchewan and wore his iron ring with pride. In 1991, he retired as a Senior Petroleum Engineer after a 31-year career with Shell Oil. Throughout his career, Don and Phyl lived in many cities in Canada and the United States.

The family of Donald would like to thank the staff at Age Care Midnapore for their kind and compassionate care of Donald these last few months. We would also like to thank the staff at Evergreen Revera, Dad’s home for 4 years, for ensuring Donald and Phyllis could stay together for as long as possible.
