Obituary of William Michael Murphy

William Michael Murphy, of Calgary, beloved husband of the late Eleanor Yvonne Murphy (nee Shannon), passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the age of 88 years.

William was born in Lethbridge, AB, Canada on August 29,1933. He moved to Calgary, AB, Canada in 1966. William obtained a fourth-class Steam Engineers Certificate in 1960, his third-class Steam Engineer and a Welders Certificate in 1965. He was a member of the Institute of Power Engineers and a past president of the Hospital Engineers Association of Alberta. He volunteered and is a past president of Southern Alberta Pioneers and their Descendants Association. In 1958 William married Eleanor Yvonne Murphy.

William enjoyed hockey, curling and gardening. William always looked forward to travelling. His most memorable trips were to Portugal, Ireland, and Hawaii. He will be most remembered for honesty, steadfastness, and his ability to fix almost anything!

William is survived by his two daughters, Shannon Marie Gifford and Kenneth Harper Gifford of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kathleen Anne Murphy and David Ross McMillan, of Vancouver, British Columbia, one son Kevin Christopher Murphy and Shauna Blehm of Calgary, Alberta; five grandchildren, Heather Anne Mirsky (nee Gifford) and Andrew Mirsky of Boca Raton, Florida, Kevin Andrew Gifford of Dallas, Texas, Charles Ross McMillan of Vancouver, British Columbia, Connor Michael Murphy, Breana Elizabeth Blehm Murphy of Calgary, Alberta; and two great-grandchildren Sarah Corrine Mirsky and Ethan James Mirsky of Boca Raton, Florida.

William was predeceased by his wife Eleanor Yvonne Murphy and his son Patrick William Murphy of Calgary, Alberta, father Christopher Desmond Murphy and mother Margaret Anne McDonald of Lethbridge, Alberta. William was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed here.
