Obituary of Roderick (Rod) Miles Greenwood


June 14, 1933 - Eston, Saskatchewan

March 16, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

 

Roderick Greenwood, beloved husband of the late Marcella Greenwood (nee Lange), of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

 

Rod was born in Eston, Saskatchewan on June 14, 1933. He graduated from the Vernon High School in Vernon, BC where he was proud to be an Air Cadet and won a scholarship towards gaining a private pilot licence.

 

Rod completed training to be a radio operator in 1954 and served as such at the Federal Government’s civil aviation stations in Vancouver, Sidney Island, Dease Lake, and Terrace before qualifying as an air traffic controller. Rod served as an operating controller at Vancouver and Goose Bay, Labrador before moving to Ottawa Headquarters to be the superintendent of Air Space & Procedures. He was also then sent on loan to work with the Indonesian Government. He then concluded his 33 ½ year career at the superintendent level in the Ottawa and the Vancouver Pacific Regional Office. After retiring at the age of 55 he performed consulting for two civil aviation organizations before volunteering with the Delta Police and the Surrey, BC RCMP. The latter with whom he volunteered for twenty years.

 

Rod’s hobbies included stamp collecting and woodworking, he also enjoyed playing softball and curling.

 

Rod was a proud father to his loving daughters, Holly (Ken Hansen) and Sandra (Terry Boos); grandfather to Brianne Thompson (Jeff) Joshua Hansen (Ashley), Taylor Boos (Kim), and Caylie Boucher (Dave); and great-grandfather (GGP) to Finn, Weston, Aiden, Madalyn, Hunter, Karter, Emilia, and Nolan.

 

Rod was predeceased by his loving wife, Marcella Greenwood; they were married for 60 years.
