Obituary of Margaret (Carol) Haika

December 2, 1950 – Edmonton, Alberta

March 17, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Margaret “Carol” Haika, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the age of 71 years.

Carol was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on December 2, 1950, but always called Calgary, Alberta her home. Carol graduated from William Aberhart High School in 1967, alongside many friends and family. She then went on to graduate from the University of Calgary in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Math and Computing Science.

Carol was a social butterfly and her smile lit up any room she entered. She had an immense amount of friends and family that she shared deep connections with. Along with her infectious smile and laugh, Carol was most known for her uplifting positivity. You would also be hard pressed to find a theme party that she wasn’t livening up with her bright energy and quirky costumes. Her true pride and joy were her flock of children and grandchildren, whom she was always extremely proud of and would stop at nothing to make sure they were taken care of.

Carol enjoyed a number of hobbies including golf, skiing, fitness, cooking/baking, patio lounging, happy hour socializing, and most importantly, travel. Carol was lucky enough to have travelled to most of the world, but always found herself gravitating back to the beaches and lanai’s of Hawaii, where she was recently able to enjoy her very last holiday.

Carol is survived by son Christopher Haika (Rebecca Haika) of Langley BC, daughter Merissa Haika (Trevor Kwan) of Calgary AB, grandchildren Ashton and Blakely Haika of Langley, BC, ex-husband and close friend Frank Haika, and siblings David Tuer (Linda Tuer), Douglas Tuer (Marty Tuer), Christine Gardner (Doug Gardner), Barbara Perry (John Perry), and Nancy Tuer, all of Calgary AB. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and close friends from various locations around the world that will miss her dearly. Carol was predeceased by mother and father, Marjorie and Marshall Dewis, and brother Kenneth Dewis.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Carol’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
