Obituary of Udo Rover

May 5, 1950 – Groß-Schwuelper, Germany

March 26, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Udo Rover, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the age of 71 years.

Udo was born in Groß-Schwuelper, Germany, on May 5, 1950. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and joined his family in Winnipeg, MB, where he grew up and went to school. During his time in Winnipeg, Udo trained and excelled as a long-distance track athlete. He later moved to Calgary, AB. Udo graduated from the Glazier program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and worked at Economy Glass for over forty years.

Udo was an active member of his community and dedicated his life to coaching and volunteering with local community and sport associations. He was a big brother with Big Brothers and Sisters of Canada, after which he contributed his time to various associations such as Blackfoot Hockey, Carburn Sports, Bow River Softball, and the Wild Rose Figure Skating Club. Udo was also president of the Bow View Ringette, and Millican Ogden Community Associations.

Udo enjoyed staying active; he loved golf, and hockey, especially the Calgary Flames, but also loved fishing, gardening, camping, and playing cards. He never missed an opportunity for a Timmie’s run to grab a double-double and a fritter. He will be most remembered for his jokes and sense of humour.

Udo is survived by his two daughters, Lysha (Shaun) Pitts and Adelle (Graham) Young, of Calgary, AB; his three grandchildren, Anne-Marie Pitts, Logan Young, and Maisey Young; two brothers, John (Bev) Stebner, of Calgary, AB, and Frank Stebner, of Vancouver, BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his ex-wife of 35 years and friend, Laurie Bulin, of Calgary, AB. Udo was predeceased by his parents, Jutta and Ewald Stebner, of Winnipeg, MB.
