Obituary of Kenneth Michael Mayer

Kenneth Mayer, beloved partner of Cathy Roberts of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at the age of 76 years.

Ken was a loving partner, father and friend. Raised in Beiseker, AB, he loved to laugh and approached everything he did with a passionate intensity and light-hearted sense of humour. He practiced dentistry in Calgary for 50 years. He was a master of his craft, and he adored his patients, doing what he could to serve them in every way.

When Ken wasn’t in the dental office, he was on the run pursuing many hobbies, including photography, travelling, hockey, golfing, curling, snorkelling and Tai Chi. He was a collector of everything, from rocks and shells he found in nature, to bric-a-brac, artisan pieces, photos, newspaper clippings, key chains, postcards, friends and experiences. Even after his stroke five years ago, he continued to charge ahead finding adventure with the gusto and uniqueness he was known for. Ken’s family and friends meant everything to him. His big smile, generosity and kindness blessed all of us who knew and loved him, and he will be dearly missed.    

Ken is survived by his children, Christa (James) and Chad (Khadija), and their mother Trudy; his grandchildren, Hazel and Serena, and their mother Heather; grandchild Ella, his partner Cathy Roberts, and her sons, John (Lisa) and Dan; grandchildren, Lujan, Ilyanna and Jackson, and their mother Vfalen; and great-grandchildren, Lilaq and Rhett. He is also survived by his brother Tony. Kenneth was predeceased by his parents, John and Theresa; his brother John (Beatrice), his sisters, Mary of Edmonton and Theresa (Felix), and his sister-in-law Alice.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway Fish Creek (14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
