Obituary of Anette Marie Mikkelsen

Anette Marie Mikkelsen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the age of 70 years.

Anette was born in Holstebro, Denmark on August 13, 1951 to parents, Jorgen and Else Mikkelsen. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 with her family; establishing themselves in Calgary, AB.

Anette had many notable accomplishments throughout her life. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a master’s degree in business. This came after having already obtained two Bachelors of Science degrees in psychology and physiotherapy at the Universities of Calgary and Alberta respectively.

She was on the board of governors for Talisman Centre from 2011-17. She volunteered with a number of organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge through her work at Health Quality Council of Alberta.

Anette had a passion for traveling. She loved to explore new places and experiences, and particularly try out new foods. A highlight was when she dined at the famed restaurant, Noma, in Copenhagen with her son, Jeff.  Throughout her life, she travelled to almost all of the continents, Asia, Europe, Australia and North and South America. Some of her favorites were the Galapagos Islands, Singapore, Denmark and France. Notably, her holiday to Africa in 2015 was a once in a lifetime trip.

Incorporated into travel, was Anette's love of the outdoors. She would regularly be found hiking, cycling or snowshoeing. She looked forward to her yearly cycling and winery tour trips. Many of these activities were made more enjoyable by sharing them with her close friends. An important piece of Anette’s life was the relationships she formed; many of which span decades. 

Anette is survived by her son Jeffrey Minchuk, and daughter Karen (David Lang) Minchuk; and her two grandchildren, Soren and Avery. Anette is also survived by her two brothers, Tommy (Zelly) Mikkelsen, and Ronnie (Barb) Mikkelsen, along with their respective families. 

A Celebration of Anette’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed there.

In living memory of Anette Mikkelsen, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5.
