Obituary of Rick Richards

December 10, 1931 – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan

April 1, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Clarence “Rick” Richards announces that he passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2022, at the age of 90.

Rick was a husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Poppa, and we all loved him beyond measure. He was a Saskatchewan farm boy, who had to quit school after eighth grade, but was able to become a journeyman electrician. He played guitar and sang country songs to his daughters and granddaughters. He loved his sons-in-law as his own. He was quiet, thoughtful, and loved a good laugh. He was a fiercely loyal friend, continuing to stay in touch with classmates from the 40s, golf buddies and neighbours. He in turn inspired love and loyalty from them, as well as from many friends of his children, who adopted him as a dad.

Rick lost Joan, his wife and partner of 65 years, in 2020, but with resilience he continued to be interested in the world, his family and his friends up until the end. Rick was also predeceased by his parents Jesse and Mary Richards. He is survived by his sister Pat, brother-in-law Dave; three daughters, Terri (Bob), Shelley (Sandy) and Karen (Tim); four granddaughters, Megan (Peter), Courtney (Steve), Britney (Brian), and Jessica (Brenham); and six great-grandchildren, Cricket, Rose, Brynne, Declan, Kaimbri, and Price. Rick will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Our sorrow reflects our love for him, like a lake reflects the sky, but doesn't begin to show how deep it goes.
