Obituary of Norman (Norm) Forsgren

Norman Forsgren of Calgary, AB passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022, at the age of 90 years. 

Norman was born in Calgary, AB August 22, 1931. His early childhood was spent on the family farm east of Irricana.  In the early 1940’s, the family relocated to Calgary. Norm completed his elementary, and junior high school at King Edward and high school at Mount Royal College. He continued his education at the University of British Columbia, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.  He was employed in the petroleum industry for 35 years. Norm enjoyed music of all genres. He and Joan sang in United Church choirs wherever they resided. He enjoyed all sports both participating and watching, and he was always happy in the garden.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 66 years, Joan; three wonderful children, Karen Barnes (Steve) of Nobel ON, Gregory Forsgren (Sylvie) of Calgary, AB and Donald Forsgren (Ailsa) of Vancouver, BC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jason Barnes (Kate), Ryan Barnes, and Michelle Ogilvie (Trent) of Ontario, Samantha Buchanan (Connor) of Calgary, AB, Adam Forsgren of Toronto, ON and Taylor and Andrew Forsgren of Vancouver, BC; three great-grandchildren, Connor Barnes, Evan Ogilvie, Elizabeth Ogilvie; and step-great-grandson, Calvin of Ontario; as well as six nephews. His parents Nels and Mary Forsgren and his sister Margaret Ellard predeceased him.  

In memory of Norm, a Memorial Service will be held at Deer Park United Church, 77 Deerpoint Road SE, Calgary, AB, on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. No food or beverage service in consideration of Covid protocols. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
