Condolences
I was one of those Dormites who enjoyed Merilyn's piano playing. She played for our Square Dance group one year, too. Rae and I always commented on Merilyn and Buck's dancing. They were awesome! Many good memories of times spent at the Dorm. Sending our sincere condolences to the family.

Merilyn was a huge part of my life for the better part of 27 years, she was an incredible and kind lady with a heart of gold, She welcomed me and my kids into the family with open arms. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see her the last 3-4 years, but I thought of her often and smiled at the memories.
Music was her second love, and she took advantage of every opportunity to play the piano, it didn't matter what she played as long as people enjoyed listening to it, that's when you would see her incredibly beautiful smile and hear her laugh, all you had to do was name a song and she could play it. She was especially happy when her boys were together and would jamb with her, and that was an absolute MUST at all family gatherings, I remember, Tom used to bring his drum set or electric drums all the way from Cache Creek when he came to visit and on the few occasions when he couldn't, he would always rent a set, knowing that there would be a family jamb session scheduled at least a couple of times through his visit. She would beam with pride and happiness when she could convince Shawn to sing "This Little Penny", Shawn would always put up a fuss, but would eventually break down and sing for her. Her family and friends were everything to her, she would always keep up on how they were doing and try to keep in touch as much as possible. She used to babysit Kari when she was little until we got home from work, during their visits, she would teach her how to play cards and even tried to teach her how to play the piano. I remember when she taught Kari how to play crib and her complete surprise when Kari got a 29 hand, she said she almost didn't know how to count it.
Merilyn, you truly were a incredible lady, I will sadly miss you, but I know in my heart you are in heaven, sitting at a piano playing for all your friends and family. Rest in Peace beautiful lady, rest in peace.
The days of music and smiles are imbedded in my memory from a very young age, Merilyn could play anything. Remembering Merilyn, Shawn and Tom playing at gatherings with a love shared by all of them, they just were all so in sync with each other. As a kid I remember the Sunday night dinners together and watching Disney, Engelbart Humperdinck and Tom Jones.
Merilyn and my mom Norma Sinclair were the 2 amigos, they always had a good time, got in a little bit of trouble, but they laughed and really celebrated their friendship of 50 years or more.
Norma and I send our love to Shawn, Tom and family.
I know your playing your piano for crowds above us.
Love from us

I was one of the Dormites who ran down the hall when the piano started rocking, knew Merilyn was doing the "rock and roll".
Just name the tune and Merilyn could play it. Merilyn had a heart of gold and a friend to all. She will be greatly missed. Condolences to her family.

Mom,
I miss you now with all my heart and soul. You were a shining light throughout my entire life and now you are gone. I find it difficult even to imagine the days ahead without you in them. I find myself listening to our favorite Vince Gill songs and tearing up every time I hear them.
I know you had a good life and I am so blessed to have been part of it. I am sorry for the suffering you endured the last years of your life with dementia
I miss you always
Love Shawn
On behalf of Kindersley "Dormites" everywhere, I send condolences to Merilyn's family and want you to know that every single one of us "old-timers" immediately think of your Mom and her awesome talent whenever we hear "honky tonk" piano....we literally spent hours gathered around the piano in the dining hall where she held center stage. Her "performances" were like a magnet, dorm room doors would open and kids would troop down the hallways from all directions to attend her spontaneous concerts. I send luv 'n prayers to the family....Lois (Gordon) Shedlowski, Pacific Grove CA.
Thank you Mom, for everything you have given me and done for me. Thank you for my love of music. Thank you for teaching me to be honorable and honest. Thank you for showing me the value of hard work. Basically, thank you for everything that I am and everything I aspire to be. You were the best of the best. I miss you like crazy but know that you are looking down on us. Love you Mom❤
To Merilyn’s family,
Jack and I send our sincere condolences to all, especially Shawn and Tom. She loved them with all her heart and was so proud of them and their families! She was a gifted pianist who played for so many to enjoy the songs of the 50s and onward ,with words we could all understand! Many happy times were spent with Merilyn on the piano, Shawn on the quitar and singing, Tom with his fantastic set of drums, and my husband Jack on the saxophone or quitar! She brought musical happiness to so many in the seniors homes where she played! They would recognize the music and tap their toes and clap their hands with such pleasure, remembering days gone by! When we hear those old songs we will think of Merilyn with happy memories!
