Obituary of Merilyn Marie Heldt

Merilyn Marie Heldt passed away peacefully on April 16, 2022 at the age of 85 years.

Merilyn was born and raised around Kindersley, SK where she lived on the family farm and went to school. At the age of 6, Merilyn discovered that she had a real passion and aptitude for music and began to learn to play the piano by ear. She was truly a gifted musician and learned to play all her favorite songs very quickly. She attended Kindersley High School and studied to become a secretary and bookkeeper.  

In 1965, Merilyn moved to Calgary, AB with her two sons, Shawn and Tom where she worked in the oil and gas industry until she retired at the age of 57. Merilyn’s true love was music, and she played her entire life whenever she could find a spare moment. She enjoyed playing at many family reunions, birthdays, anniversaries, and everyone loved it. She also volunteered to play at several seniors’ homes in Northeast Calgary. Merilyn loved being around people and her music certainly brought people together.

Merilyn is survived by her children, Shawn (Sharon), Tom (Jackie), and Sherry (Ron); grandchildren, Chris (Christal), Kari (Daryl), Casondrea, Courtney, Chanel, Jared (Kelly), Brandon (Heather), Rick, and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, James, Jackson, Jacob, Oakley, and Audrina.  She is also survived by her sister, Trudy Mayer and sister-in-law, Fern Benjaminson. Merilyn is predeceased by her parents, Tolief and Laura Benjaminson; her brother, Alan (Buck) Benjaminson; and brother-in-law, Ken Mayer.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis and Holloway Park Memorial (5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB.) on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
