Obituary of Allan Douglas Clowes

April 21, 1946 - May 16, 2022

Allan Clowes of Calgary, AB passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022 at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his wife of over 42 years, Linda Clowes (nee Davies); his son Michael (Rachel) and his daughter Sarah. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Quinn and Sebastian Clowes, and his brother Ron (Sheila).

Allan was born and raised in Calgary, living first in Sunnyside and then moving to Briar Hill. He attended Capitol Hill followed by Branton and then William Aberhart. After high school, Allan worked for a year at Cominco, where his father worked as a welder. He then attended the University of Calgary and obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1969. Following graduation, Allan articled with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell (now KPMG), obtaining his CA designation in 1971 and becoming a partner in the firm in 1979. He left in 1987 to pursue other business opportunities, initially running Northridge Exploration and then partnering in other Canadian and global investment opportunities.

Allan travelled the world with his wife and spent many winters in Scottsdale, capitalizing on the warm weather to golf. He enjoyed designing and building many projects around the house, and there was nothing he couldn’t fix. Allan loved sports, including hockey, golf, and skiing, and enjoyed teaching his skills to his children and grandchildren. He coached both Michael and Sarah’s hockey teams and loved playing a round of golf with them. Allan enjoyed summers at the cabin in Sandpoint with his family and exploring the lake on the boat. His primary passion was building vintage cars, the more power the better. Over the years, he built five cars with the help of friends and loved to show them at various car shows in Calgary, Idaho, California, and around Phoenix. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A Celebration of Allan’s Life will be held at held at the Calgary Golf and Country Club, 919 50th Avenue S.W., on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Guest information may be obtained at www.cgandcc.com. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
