Obituary of Joe Russo

March 27, 1955 - San Giacomo di Cerzeto Cosenza, Italy

May 20, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Guiseppe Russo on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the age of 67 years. He will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to his family, his sense of humor, loyalty, and generosity.

Joe was born in San Giacomo di Cerzeto, Cosenza, Italy, immigrated to Canada in 1958, and lived his entire life in Calgary. Joe was the beloved husband to Sandra of 42 years, father to Christina and Mike (Brittney), and proud grandfather to Nickolas, Olivia, Addison, Ronin and Aria. He is survived by his brother Lorenzo (Suzanne) and their children, Biancha (Dan & Scarlett), Dominic (Jenna), and Anthony; his brother and sister-in-law, David Barber (Kathy), Andrea (Bob) and their children Ryan (Lauren), Shawn, Cordelia, Phaedra (Keagen), Chris, and Tabitha (Riley). He was predeceased by his parents, Michelangelo and Ortenzia (Albanito) Russo and his in-laws, John and Ena Barber. Joe will be forever remembered by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.

Joe came to Canada at the young age of three with his mother to join his father and other family already in Calgary. As the first born, Joe became the one who guided his parents, including taking great care of his younger brother Lorenzo. Joe was driven and committed; he worked primarily in the Propane industry, working for Mohawk, Premier Propane and finally retiring from Superior Propane with 33 years of dedication. Joe couldn’t sit still and quickly returned to the workforce weeks after his retirement, and he settled at New West Equipment. Anyone who was blessed enough to cross paths with Joe knew he was dedicated to looking after the best interests of the industry. Joe's family was always his top priority. He was always there for you day or night with no questions asked. Joe was loudly passionate with his beliefs and feelings, and he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind or enjoy a debate. Joe enjoyed continuing the family tradition of Sunday dinners, hosting, playing cards, trips to the casino, driving his classic cars and making memories in Phoenix, Arizona.

Joe, you’ve left us beautiful memories, your love will always be our guide, and though we cannot see you, we know you’ll always be by our sides.
