Rev. John Petravicius of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at the age of 89 years.

John was born in Bellevue, AB on May 11,1933, and entered St. Joseph’s Seminary in 1954 in Edmonton, AB. He was ordained on May 23, 1959 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Calgary, AB. After ordination, he served in a number of parishes and ministries within the Calgary Diocese until his retirement in 2002. During his ministry, Father John made a few pilgrimages to his parents’ homeland of Lithuania, bringing much needed medical supplies for eye surgeries. In retirement, he resided at St. Anthony’s Parish and then Providence Care Centre in Calgary, AB.

Vigil Prayers will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340 – 4th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s cemetery. Reception to follow in the St. Mary’s Cathedral Hall. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Father John’s Funeral Mass streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
