Condolences
I played hockey with Ai for a number of years at Crowchild Arena on the Crowchild Black team. I always enjoyed his company with his sense of humor and easy going attitude. We always shared stories about our grandchildren and he was a fun guy in the dressing room. My sympathies to the family. Bill Gatfield

Ruth and family, I am so sorry to learn of Alan’s passing. As a colleague with the Calgary Board of Education, I enjoyed many educational conversation with him. He was a very knowledgable administrator. However, the most compelling comments about Alan came from my late wife Sandra, who worked with him for several years. She described Alan as a very competent, kind, compassionate and supportive administrator an excellent leader and a good friend! May the memories of so many years provide you solace in your loss.

Total shock is what comes to mind as I heard of Alan's passing while trying to book our usual birthday lunch dates as he was only days shy of his 80 th birthday. Our sincere condolences to Ruth and family as we try and make sense of another close friend. Alan was also a tremendous staff member where he served as my assistant principal for several years. He will be forever remembered for his honesty, cheerful smile, hard work and a superb joke teller. Thanks for the memories Al. You have certainly contributed to make this world a better place. Will miss our lunch sessions.

Georgette and I send our deepest sympathy and condolences to you Ruth and family. We never forgotten yours and Alan's kindness when we first moved to Calgary more than 4 decades ago. We also fondly remember our son's first Christmas spent with you enjoying a fabulous meal. Illiyah was merely 4 months old . Al will be remembered for the kind and gentleman he was. We send you our love and hugs.

Linda and I send our warmest thoughts and condolences to Ruth and family on the loss of Alan. We crossed paths at several junctures beginning as fellow congregants at Parkdale United Church where we socialized with Alan and Ruth and being together at assistant principal functions. I always enjoyed Al's company and found him to be a truly caring and compassionate human being filled with strong values of honesty and integrity. Alan has left this world a better place.
I too am saddened to hear this news. I was blessed to have Alan as my Assistant Principal at Falconridge Elementary. I remember him as a wonderful support to staff and his love and patience for children. My condolences to family.
Sending so much love to you all. My favorite memory of Papa is my first dinner at Mina and Papa's, where he told me all about the different jobs he worked over the years. A true testament to a hard worker, and the kind of man who did what others needed of him, no questions asked.
Another fond memory of Papa is the tour of the acreage he took Mike on. A proud Papa who made sure new guests felt welcomed in his presence.
An MVP to a tee♥️

Dear Ruth and Family,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Alan’s passing. I always enjoyed yours and Alan’s company when we had the opportunity to be at the same social gatherings. I will always be grateful for the time Kaye lived with you while she was working at the Foothills Hospital. I understand the heartbreak you are now enduring. I know no words can ease your pain, but please know Alan will be remembered fondly.
Sincerely,
Patty Atkinson
