Obituary of Ben Shee Chow

November 27, 1933 – Hoiping, China

August 1, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Ben Chow, beloved husband of Betty Chow, of Calgary, AB, on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the age of 88 years.

Ben was born in Hoiping, China, on November 27, 1933.

He immigrated to Canada at the age of 16 and eventually settled in Estevan, SK, where he co-owned and operated the Canada Café restaurant for many years until his retirement.

Since then, Ben and Betty moved to Calgary and became actively involved with the Chinese Community. Family was of great importance to Ben, and he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He took interest in what was happening in their lives and was very proud of their individual achievements.  We have many happy memories of family gatherings.  His friends were also very important and he valued their friendships. He was quiet in his demeanor, but his generosity and kindness always shone through.

Ben enjoyed tending to his garden where he grew beautiful peonies.  He is fondly remembered for his love of eating sweets and wearing baseball caps.

Besides his wife, Betty, Ben is survived by his children, Larry (Fionne), Tim (Sandra) and Eva (Tim); as well as grandchildren, Amelia and Nolan.

For those wishing to pay their respects, there is a visitation at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
