Obituary of Joseph John Klepik

March 21, 1939 – Brandon, Manitoba

August 11, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Play it again Joe Klepik! The nicest guy ever, beloved husband of Deany Klepik, passed on Thursday, August 11, 2022, in Calgary, AB, living to 83 years.

Born March 21, 1939, in Brandon, MB, to Bernice & Peter who emigrated from Poland & Ukraine. By age 12, Joey professionally played accordion and clarinet for every wedding and dance at the Sokol Hall. He moved to Toronto to study at Radio Arts College of Canada and became the night manager at Royal York Hotel, where he met and married his love, Deany. Joe then transferred west with CP to Calgary, AB, in 1964. While he was the night manager at Palliser Hotel, Joe dreamt of one day playing their Crystal Ballroom, as well as Banff Springs Hotel, and it’s every jazz musician’s dream to play Carnegie Hall. He met Ron Barge and started work with CFCN CTV in 1967. For 37 years he supervised the studio, camera team, and floor directed every Buckshot Show, Marie Hohtanz Show, and daily newscasts. Joe hosted international celebrities and political figures daily. He built the family home with his own hands, crafting all the furniture himself. He fought through multiple cancer surgeries and won. After retiring in 2004, Joe became bandleader for the Summit Big Band in his 70’s. With pride, he played events at the Palliser, Banff Springs, and yes, onstage at Carnegie Hall, NY, with the Cappy Smart Band! He will forever be respected for his easy-going, calming charm, and humble nature.

Joe is survived by son Peter aka Alaric, daughter Christine (James), granddaughter Chaely (Kyleigh and Justin); and beloved sisters and brothers-in-law; as well as all nieces and nephews, great and grand. He was predeceased by his dearest wife Deany, mother Bernice, father Peter, and sister Joyce (survived by Ken and niece Cherie). Our most sincere thanks to Calgary EMS, the incredible nurses at Rockyview Hospital, and AHS.
