Condolences
Dear Bill & Brenda:
It's never a coincidence when you think of someone who brought some very special moments in your life. Today as I was looking through my Mom's pictures and letters, which I have had since her passing in 1998, I found Christmas cards and pictures from your mom and dad after they moved from St. Catharines to Calgary. I decided to google your names to see who might come up....and then I googled your Mom's name and was surprised to see she had passed away. 93 years old! Good for her and for you and your families!! You've had a long time with your Mom! And I have very vivid memories of our neighbours, the McPhail's, which came back to mind immediately! Brenda and I became close friends prior and into our teens! From walking to Victoria School together, playing outside in our yards in summertime to playing in the snow and skating in the winter, and then heading back to your warm kitchen where likely, your mom was cooking, was always a treat! I remember your mom inviting me to stay for pancakes.....I'm sure I ate my share and more as they seemed to be the tastiest pancakes I ever had! I also argued with my mom when she told me you two were adopted. I said, "That's not possible ! Billy looks just like his Dad and Brenda smiles just like her Mom!" Mom assured me you were adopted, to which she said, "They were chosen!" And it's so true from what you said during her funeral! My Mom often headed to the McPhail's for an evening of music and drinks and she loved how your parents complimented each other! Your Dad was a joker, and your Mom was a saint!
Lovely lady, Lovely family, Lovely tribute! From all of us Potters on Doncaster Street we send our deepest condolences and prayers for you and your family although 1 year late. If possible it would be lovely to reconnect after all these years!
Sincerely, and with great memories, Patricia Potter Warkentine Morden MB
Bill, Brenda and Families, I am so very sorry to hear of your Mom 's passing. As Bill mentioned I had the incredible honor of getting to know Bernice ("Grandma B" as my daughter knows her) while traveling from London On to Calgary Ab. It was my genuine pleasure to be in a situation where I had a couple of hours one on one to meet the wonderful woman who chose to love not only my brother but a beautiful daughter as well. One of the first things she said to me was that she was looking for a man with a motorcycle. There was an instant connection. I couldn't even tell you all the things we talked about on that flight, but I can tell you about the feelings of love, joy and pure acceptance that she shared with me. Before I knew it, I had another person in my life to love. It felt like I had known her all my life. I will always treasure the moments, few as they were, that we got to spend with her. I can still hear her as we sang "Amazing Grace" along with my daughter, Bill and Kim on a beautiful summer evening at the Passion Play in Drumheller. I think those two words best summarize the Bernice that I met....Amazing Grace! Sending love, Deb.
Dear Bill and Brenda,
So sorry to hear of your Mother's passing.
She was my big cousin 'Mecee" to me. My main memory of Bernice was that she was so kind and fun loving. My brother Elliott and I remember when your parents got married and lived in an apartment near our home. There was much happiness at that time and for sure that continued throughout their lives.
I will try and join the service remotely tomorrow.
Love and Hugs to you both.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Bill, Brenda and your families. Bernice, or Mrs. McPhail to our girls, will always be remembered for her love for the Lord, her family and friends. We have pleasant memories of visits in her home, at church events, and delightful times at Keenager camps at Crowsnest Lake Bible Camp. We will miss her infectious laugh and also how grateful she was for all the blessings God had given her. Love and prayers, Les, Donna, Robyn, Steph and Jamie
