Obituary of Patricia (Pat) Ann Devlin (nee Crone)
February 21, 1957– Hamilton, Ontario
August 26, 2022– Sylvan Lake, Alberta
We are extremely sad to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Pat Devlin on Friday, August 26, 2022, at the age of 65 years. She was the beloved wife of Brian Devlin, mother of Luke and Sam Devlin, and sister of Donna McMillan, Dennis Crone and Jim Crone.
Born in Hamilton, ON, Pat graduated from the Ryerson University School of Journalism in 1976 and followed her passion for writing to Calgary. In Calgary, she worked as a reporter for The Albertan and Calgary Herald, and later in communications, where she specialized in corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
While working as a reporter, she met the love of her life, Brian Devlin, and they were married in 1981. Together, Pat and Brian raised two sons, Luke and Sam, and enjoyed over 40 years of marriage that saw them travel the world, share their passion for live music, and discover and create her favourite place in the world, their cabin on the shores of Sylvan Lake, AB.
Pat was loving, energetic and ambitious. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, friends, and, of course, her dogs. She was an avid kayaker, cyclist and cross-country skier, and later in her life, blossomed into an incredible painter. She brought everything from the bustling streets of Barcelona to the spectacular prairie skies of Alberta to life on her canvases, many of which can be found on the walls of homes and offices around the world.
She was a truly inspiring person whose personality was as radiant as her smile. She was a bolt of optimism, strength and generosity. We’re devastated by this loss and will miss her laughter and love more than words can describe.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Pat's name directly to the charity of their choice.
A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, Sept 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the hospitality centre at the funeral home.
