Obituary of Marie Charlotte Olson

It is with great sadness that we recognize the passing of our dear Aunt Marie Thursday, September 29, 2022, only two months short of her 90th birthday. Marie struggled with Alzheimer’s and Dementia for close to fifteen years.

Marie was born into a loving family. She was the third daughter to John and Clara Olson, who had immigrated to Canada from Sweden and was sister to Evelyn and Elsie Margaret. The family settled on a grain farm in Blackie, Alberta (near High River). After her schooling, she moved to Calgary.

Although Marie never married or had children of her own, she was loved immensely by her nieces and nephews and extended family.  She was very independent and after working at the Calgary Police Station in downtown Calgary for a time, she moved to the U.S. where she worked in Hawaii, San Francisco and finally Seattle, before moving back to Calgary following retirement. Throughout her professional working career, she was a legal secretary and executive assistant at prominent law firms. She was highly regarded by her fellow business associates.

Marie was known for her style and grace and was as lovely on the inside as on the outside. She never missed reaching out to the family at birthdays, Christmas, or other special occasions. She will be dearly missed.

Marie resided at the George Boyack Carewest facility since 2012.  On behalf of the family, we cannot thank the George Boyack staff, doctors, nurses and administration enough for everything they did for her over this time. They are incredible people, and we are so grateful for all that was done to keep Marie comfortable and happy for so many years. The family also thanks the professionalism and care taken by McInnis and Holloway throughout this difficult time.
