Obituary of Erma Irene MacKay

February 25, 1926 – Baldur, Manitoba

October 9, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Erma MacKay (nee Huffman), Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the age of 96 years.

 

Erma was born on February 25, 1926, to parents, Jessie and Roy Huffman in Argyle, a rural municipality outside of Baldur, MB. Erma finished school in Baldur, she then spent a year teaching at a school at the request of the Argyle municipality. She had to learn how to grab her lunch off a fence post, as the horse she rode to school would not let her get on with lunch in hand!

 

Erma married Keith Young, they had two daughters, Cheryl and Bonnie, together they moved to Belmont, MB. After some time, Erma, Cheryl and Bonnie moved to Brandon, MB, where she worked in retail sales. In 1962, Erma married Stuart MacKay, they moved out west to Calgary, AB, to a home they would share for fifty-seven years. Together they grew their family with two boys, Cameron and Roy. Erma worked in the Renfrew community for fifty years in many capacities.

 

Erma is survived by her daughter Cheryl Fredell of Turner Valley, AB; and two sons, Cameron, and Roy MacKay of Valleyview, AB, grandchildren, Kelly, and Doug (Warley) Fredell; and Kevin, Liz, Adam, and Lazhia Buchanan; and great-grandchildren, Mac and Molly Buchanan, Noah, Maya Fredell-McNeil, Theodore Fredell, and Eve, and Kensey Buchanan.

 

Erma was predeceased by her husband Stuart MacKay in 2019, parents, Roy and Jessie Huffman (nee Jean), and daughter Bonnie Buchanan in 2012.
