Obituary of Yvonne Armstrong
March 29, 1936 – Wilkie, Saskatchewan
October 28, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Yvonne Armstrong passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the age of 86 years after battling breast cancer.
Yvonne graced us with her presence on March 29, 1936, to Maria Thresa (Gaertner) and Leopold Edward Franke in Wilkie, SK. She was raised in Kelfield, SK, and moved to Kerrobert, SK, to work as a telephone operator in 1953. It was there she met and then married Robert Armstrong in 1960. In 1957, she moved to Calgary, AB, and accepted a position with AGT. Soon expanding her family to five and then returning into the work force doing accounting part time.
Yvonne’s greatest passion was volunteering. The tremendous amount of volunteering she did led to a lifetime membership at Thorncliffe Greenview Community, Calgary/Alberta 55 Plus and received the honour of the Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee Medal. Although she enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, she also savored time with family and friends, and playing bocce.
Yvonne is survived by her children; Robert, Darren (Cathy) and Leanne; grandchildren, Cassandra, Colby, Dalton, Tyler, and Darby; and sisters; Lorraine (Perry) and Jeanette (John). Yvonne was predeceased by her husband Robert; parents, Leopold and Mary; and son-in-law Dwight.
