Condolences
I have the fondest memories of working with Bonnie over the years in Inpatients and Outpatients at the Alberta Children's Hospital where I worked as a nurse for 40 years. She was a real sweetheart and an excellent social worker who advocated tirelessly for her patients and their families. I only wish I could have seen her dance or danced with her. Rest in Peace Dear Bonnie and I hope we can meet again on the other side. Saskia VanToledo
I was very fortunate to meet Bonnie at the Alberta Children's Hospital. She was dedicated and worked extremely hard for all the families that were in her care. I loved to chat with Bonnie about her past and hear the incredible stories that always included a good laugh before we were done. She was a lovely woman with a hear of gold.
My first meeting with Bonnie was when she danced into our office and announced that she was our new Neuromotor Clinic Social Worker.
A long association followed with many years of friendship and creativity.
Her CP families loved her for her kindness, knowledge and caring.
She will be missed
Bonnie joined our family when her beautiful and caring daughter , Alissa, married our son, Jamie. We celebrated their engagement with them in Calgary and later their marriage in Montreal. Bonnie put you at ease with her welcoming smile and great conversation, not to mention her famously delicious chocolate cake. When grandchildren came into the picture, she always made sure to attend their birthdays until her illness no longer permitted her to travel.Family was very important to her. She leaves us with many fond memories and the meaning of a true mensch.Rest in peace our dear Bonnie. You will be truly missed. Harold & Merle Gorelik
Bonnie has been a dear friend and colleague of mine for over 30 years. For a dozen of those years, Bonnie and I served as the "dynamic psycho-social duo" (her phrase) of Neuromotor Clinic. (I could barely keep up with her!) I will always remember her compassion and commitment to the families of children with disabilities, and her spontaneous and creative flair for everything else she did. We shared a lot of music, laughter and stories over the years. Some of those stories seemed too fantastic to be true but, because I was there for some of them, I know them to be genuine.
Alissa, Matthew and family, please know that Bonnie was loved by many, as I know how much she cherished you.
Shalom, Stephen Maunula
I had the privilege of working with Bonnie for many years through her work at Wood’s Homes and the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Her passion and commitment to the profession of social work, her colleagues and the children and families she worked with were undeniable. She lived, loved, and served with her whole heart. On a personal note, Bonnie was what I considered an advisor to me as my daughter entered the world of musical theatre. I will never forget her encouragement, sage advice, and of course the stories. I am so sorry for your loss, may the memories you have and moments you shared with Bonnie bring joy and comfort in the months and years ahead.
When I think of Bonnie, I think of passion, commitment, energy, loyalty, dedication, and determination, as well as unfailing kindness. She brought all of these attributes to her role as social worker on the Neuromotor Clinic at the Alberta Children’s Hospital… and she used these skills to support and encourage the families she worked with through the years. Over time, and through the numerous reincarnations of the clinic, the staff, the roles, the location, and the mandate, she never lost sight of who she was, and the needs of the families she served and the colleagues she worked with, and demonstrated bravery in the face of the challenges she faced.
I was privileged to have had her support as the mother of a child with Cerebral palsy, and later as a colleague at Alberta Children’s Hospital. She made a difference for us all, and will be missed.
I’m so sorry to hear this news. I worked with Bonnie for many years at ACH and she always made an impression on staff and families alike and nobody was more dedicated to her work than Bonnie. My thoughts are with her family.
I have such warm memories of working with Bonnie, and the gatherings we shared. She usually was the life of the parties as she had such a talent of making up lyrics to various familiar tunes and brought smiles and laughter to all. We also share dresses and stories of her grandchildren. She offered our patients the healing power of dancing and singing. I will forever remember her as a good friend.
I knew Bonnie as she was a Board Member of Inside Out Theatre, a disability arts theatre company in Calgary. I will never forget her smile, warmth, and intelligence as she mentored me as General Manager of the company. What I will remember the most, however, was the enlightening and often hilarious stories and adventures she told about her various careers in the Performing Arts. A true artist and a dedicated healer, she did so much to improve the lives of others in our society and she always appeared to be having a great time doing it. My heartfelt condolences to the family for her passing.
I remember Bonnie well and a smile comes to my face thinking of the time we worked together. Not only did Bonnie do a wonderful job for the families she served in our clinic but she also left a great impression on her workmates including myself, she had so many and varied experiences in life that impacted her work and work friendships, she was a lot of fun.
I have many wonderful memories of Bonnie in our work together at Alberta Children's Hospital. She was so kind, warm, supportive and always willing to help others. I will miss her. My condolences to your family in this very difficult time.
