Obituary of Theresa Rose Lavoie

We are profoundly sad to announce the passing of Theresa Rose at the age of 73. Theresa demonstrated incredible strength and stoicism in recovering from a stroke and in battling cancer in 2022.

Theresa was a devoted educator who taught in Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House, Brooks, and Calgary. The majority of Theresa’s career was spent with the Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) as a reading clinician and school-based administrator. Theresa was especially proud of the culminating work of her career as principal of St. Patrick School from 2001 - 2009.

Theresa was an exceptional woman! Her family and friends will always treasure the moments shared and the love given.

Theresa is survived by her loving sons, Robert (Rosy), and David; treasured grandchildren, Alexander, Rosa, Lili, and Aiden; sisters, Linda (Wade), and Laurette; nephew Bryan (Dawn), great-niece Tessa, great-nephew Tate, and many special cousins. Theresa is predeceased by her beloved parents, Margaret and Arnold Lavoie; many aunts and uncles; and nephew Richard Portman.

Theresa’s family and friends meant the world to her. Special acknowledgements to cousins, Larry & Kathy, Jeanne, Elaine and families for their love and support. Thank you to Theresa’s soul sister, Anna Kae, and dear friends, Joanne, Phyllis, Mo, and Myrene & Frank who walked alongside Theresa through recent challenges and in happier times. Many visits and travels over the years will be fondly remembered.

As a lover of music, Theresa was a proud member of the Calgary Women’s Chorus. The family is thankful to the CWC for their outpouring of affection and special brand of sisterhood.

Special thanks to the Early Stroke Discharge (ESD) Team who helped Theresa gain a personal sense of agency after her stroke.

A memorial service in celebration of Theresa’s life will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at McInnis and Holloway, (The Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary). Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
