Condolences
Very sorry to learn about the passing of John. He was a longtime media colleague and a friend in the collectibles world. Always had lots of laughs with John, and I'm sure that whenever I might hear mention of any of his favourite athletes and teams - Gordie Howe, the Red Wings, Brooks Robinson, the BC Lions - I will think of Hendu. Sincere condolences to Betty Ann and family.
It was an honor to work with John. It really meant something when he would seek out and want one of us to shoot or edit one his stories. It meant that he respected you and trusted you to take it as seriously as he did. John loved what he did and was passionate about telling a decent story and sharing the challenges & struggles of local athletes. He was a champion of local sports and a pillar of local broadcasting.
Betty Ann, I am so sorry for your loss.
I met John when I was 15 years old and had the honour of his friendship for over 35 years. He often came to my sports memorabilia store during the 90’s and we would always see each other at all of the hockey card shows. I smiled hearing of his basement sports room during the service. My condolences to Betty Ann, family and friends. RIP Hendu.
Thank you John for all the memories of “Hockey Talk” after game call in show that I had the pleasure of watching ‘live’ in the C of Red Club in the Saddledome. I learned so much listening to your views and thoughts on hockey ….
Dear Dr. Henderson,
I am so sorry to hear of the sudden loss of your dear Husband. I'm sure this is the hardest loss you'll ever have to face. I hope you can find comfort in the wonderful memories of your years together and all the kind words about his life. I never met John, but you whenever your spoke about him it made you smile.
Dear, Betty Ann. I am so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and praying for comfort and peace for you and your loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Hi Dr. Henderson - I'm sorry to hear of John's passing. I didn't get a chance to meet him many times during our work together but the few times I did he was very kind, funny and I could tell he loved you very much.
I always liked listening to John on Hockey Talk. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the Calgary scene as a sports fan served him while in his profession and we all gained from that when we tuned in to listen to that voice.
I am very sorry for your loss. John was a great media friend with an amazing sense of humour. He always made me laugh. He will be missed.
I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. He was one of my favourites at ShawTV when we worked together in the late 90s/early 2000s.. As a lifelong Flames fan, it was so great to get to know someone I had grown up listening to on the call in show during the 80's. He even gave me the great honour of presenting me with a Pied Pickle sweatshirt when we worked together. Something I will never forget. All the best, Pete
We’re very sorry for your loss. John was one of our favourite people in the media. Always loved chatting with him and his love of cats is legendary. RIP old friend.
I am very sorry for your loss. It was always great to see John during our various stops on the sports circuit. Always knowledgable and insightful. RIP.
I'm very sorry to hear this news and my sincere condolences to Betty Ann. John was a great guy and would often come by the Stamps Store to chat about all kinds of stuff but mostly the Stamps and the CFL. We always enjoyed his visits and he will be greatly missed.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Betty Ann.
John was one of my favourite people at ShawTV and I learned so much from him in so many ways. As many have said here, he was a great sportscaster and consummate professional who told stories like no one else.
Beyond that, I’ll never forget his love for you and the cats, and how proudly he spoke of you—his brilliant wife, the epidemiologist, B-A.
Rest in peace, John. You will be missed.
So sorry to hear this sad news of John passing. I worked with him for eleven years at Shaw TV. He was passionate about sports and well respected in his field. We shared many laughs over the years. After moving away from Calgary it was nice to still stay connected through Facebook. My thoughts are with Betty Ann and their family at this time. Rest in peace John.
John was the first journalist I worked with after moving to Canada. Apart from being one of the most professional broadcasters that I have worked with, either side of the Atlantic John was a good friend with whom I had many good times. Like all who had the pleasure of knowing John I will miss him dearly, but I will never forget him.
Betty Ann;
Sorry to hear about John. He was a friend and a fellow beer drinker for many years at the CBC.
Still have his meatloaf recipe and shall raise a fork and a glass to him this weekend. Probably while listening to our shared taste in rock n' roll.
Mike Spear
My condolences Betty-Ann.
My first 10 years in Calgary enjoyed working with John on Flames broadcasts. A very knowledgeable sports broadcaster and hockey host with a great sense of humor. Later, when John moved on I always looked forward to seeing him at the Saddledome.
Sad to hear of his passing. Left with many great memories.

Dear Betty Ann
I worked with John for ten years and we had a lot of good laughs and talks over that decade. I can honestly say nobody covered amateur sports in Calgary better than John Henderson. He had a wonderful gift of making the athlete we were interviewing, feel like they were the most important person at that moment!
I'm sorry to hear of his passing, he will truly be missed.
I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. We only worked together for a few years but his passion for story telling has always stuck with me. He was such a joy to be around. Sending lots of love.

I worked with John and CBC and have fond memories of our chats. I know he was bitterly disappointed at how his time there ended and we were all disappointed not to have him keeping local sports alive on CBC. My best to all of his family and friends.

Betty Ann, I am so sorry to hear about John's passing. He always made me laugh with his jokes and sense of humour - I recall those mornings just before teaching class virtually when he would show up on camera, coffee in hand, and either a sports or cat's pajama set. I'd tease him and he would crack a joke right back, and my morning would feel much lighter. We are thinking of you, praying for you, and wishing you happy memories of John. Love Jenine, Marc, Julien and Christian.
Betty Ann, so sorry to hear the news about your husband - sigh - hope you are/will be ok. Thinking of you - Linda Pelude and the CNISP Team.
