Obituary of Gerald Dubisky

With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Jerry, husband and best friend of Faith, adored father of Rodi Kirshenbaum (Howie), Laurie Wasser (Cary), and Sherry Hvingelby (Scott). Cherished Zaida of Marc Kirshenbaum (Shira), Justin Kirshenbaum (Tracy), Joey Hadari (Ilana), Ronit Hadari-Wolfe (Mo), Chelsey Hvingelby (Mark), Brett Hvingelby, Tyler Doyle, Marlee Wasser, Adam Wasser (Jamie), Dylan Wasser (Bailey); and precious great-Zaida of Tzivi Hadari-Wolfe and Jade Kirshenbaum.

Jerry is also survived by his brother Syd Dubisky (Helen), brother-in-law Irwin Rajesky (Hope), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving parents Minnie and Joe Dubisky and his sister-in-law Adele Rajesky.

Jerry attended Sunalta school and then Central High school, where he formed many of his lifelong friendships. After a year at university in Winnipeg, he returned to Calgary to join his father and brother in the family business, J. Dubisky & Sons Wholesale. After the sale of the business in 1977, Jerry became more involved in managing their residential properties.

Jerry met the love of his life on a blind date and 59 years later, Faith was still his everything. Whether it was travelling the world together or enjoying an impromptu picnic lunch with a glass of wine on a blanket at home, they made the most of every day.

Jerry’s love for his family knew no bounds. The legacy of the family he built speaks volumes to the person he was. He approached life with positivity, a heart-warming smile, and a zest for life which endeared him to everyone he met. A special thank you for all the kindness and compassion shown to Jerry during his illness.

Funeral Services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1325 Glenmore Trail S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. Interment to follow at Erlton Cemetery (Erlton Street & Macleod Trail S.W., Calgary, AB) Shiva will be observed at Beth Tzedec Synagogue.
